Castell de Rocaberti: Costa Brava area
Sleeps 34 | Bedrooms 13 | Bathrooms 13 | Size 1000m2
Castell de Rocaberti is an imposing medieval castle located midway between the historic cities of Girona and Figueres and the seaside beaches of the Costa Brava.
The impressive building is the focal point at the heart of a quiet little Catalan village.
It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers views to the mountains and beyond.
As you enter through the magnificent portals, you will be struck immediately by a sense of peace and tranquillity.
Perfect as a Costa Brava wedding venue the castle dates back to the 15th C and it has welcomed kings, queens and other aristocracy over the centuries. Today its 13 bedrooms, some suites, and 15 bathrooms, distributed in its four storeys, offer every convenience of modern life and make for a most inviting and comfortable base to explore the nearby region. The Castle is also perfect as a base if you are planning a Costa Brava cycling holiday in the region - let us know if we can help arrange bikes and cycling guides.
The ground floor is where you will find the semi professional kitchen and spacious dining hall with capacity for over 30 people. The kitchen also has easy access to the outdoor BBQ and pool area.
The first floor is where the aristocrats would have lived, and is the one with the most sophisticated feel. It includes a large salon, dominated by a great fireplace and with comfortable furniture and stunning antiques.
Given its village setting, the castle has an “urban” garden: a broad elevated terrace, one section shaded by a large pergola that creates a cool outdoor living room, it includes a “plunge” swimming pool for quick refreshment, otherwise the Costa Brava beaches are only 20 minutes away from this luxury Spain villa.

Area information
Set in a peaceful rural village surrounded by fields, Mediterranean woodland and the countryside of the Empordà, this property offers an authentic taste of rural Catalonia. The nearby Fluvià River adds to the natural character of the area, with quiet country roads and paths providing a pleasant setting for walking and cycling. Despite its secluded atmosphere, the property is within easy reach of the Mediterranean coast, historic towns and some of the region’s most important cultural attractions.
Countryside & local surroundings
- The Empordà countryside: The landscape around the property is characterised by agricultural fields, woodland and traditional rural villages, offering a peaceful environment in which to slow down and enjoy the natural surroundings. The small villages scattered across the Empordà preserve a quieter side of Catalonia, with traditional stone houses, local restaurants and a strong connection to the surrounding agricultural landscape.
Coast & ancient heritage
- Empúries & Sant Martí d’Empúries: Around 15 minutes away, the archaeological site of Empúries is one of the most important ancient sites in Catalonia, where the remains of a Greek settlement and a Roman city stand beside the Mediterranean. Nearby Sant Martí d’Empúries is a beautiful historic village overlooking the sea, providing a natural complement to a visit to the ruins.
- L’Escala & the Costa Brava: Around 20 minutes away, L’Escala combines a traditional fishing heritage with sandy beaches, rocky coves and clear Mediterranean waters. Further along the coast, Sant Pere Pescador and the wider Bay of Roses offer long sandy beaches and open coastal landscapes.
- Aiguamolls de l’Empordà: Around 20 minutes away, this important natural park protects one of Catalonia’s principal wetland areas, with lagoons, marshes, meadows and waterways around the lower Fluvià and Muga. More than 300 bird species have been recorded here, making it particularly appealing to nature lovers and birdwatchers.
- Empuriabrava: Around 30 minutes away, this unique coastal resort is known for its extensive network of navigable canals and offers a very different side of the region, with boating, water sports, skydiving and other leisure activities.
Towns & culture
- Figueres & the Dalí Theatre-Museum: Around 25 minutes away, Figueres is the birthplace of Salvador Dalí and home to his extraordinary Theatre-Museum, created by the artist himself and dedicated to his work.
- Besalú, Banyoles & Girona: Around 30 minutes away, these three destinations offer very different experiences: the beautifully preserved medieval village of Besalú, the lake and natural surroundings of Banyoles, and the historic centre of Girona with its medieval streets, cathedral and Jewish Quarter.

Testimonials
Magnificent Catalonian Castle
This castle is an absolute gem! Fantastic social areas, beautiful terrace ideal for barbecue, great kitchen with all equipment needed, even for parties of 20-30 persons. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, almost all rooms with en suite bathrooms. Our only regret is staying too short! The beautiful backdrop of the pyreenees is indescribable! Ideal for groups, both corporate (which was my case) or groups of friends. The pool is small, but nice and clean!
The owners are very friendly and easygoing. They are very accommodating - everything is possible! Just ask and the will provide! The service of Charming Villas was excellent, swift and precise.
I will certainly be back with other groups. I was asked to give suggestions of improvement, but couldn't think of anything - it's perfection already!

We arrived home late last night, exhausted (travel is such misery) but very happy with our too-short stay. Your recommendation of the castle was a good one--all our guests were delighted with the place. We had a lovely 2 weeks there and will certainly recommend it to friends. Thank you for all your help.

What a magnificent place, so elegant and beautifully furnished. It exceded our expectations in every way. It was large enough to congregate our large group, still there was plenty of privacy for us all. The castle was a convenient base to explore all the highlights of the region.
