Villa Casamar: Costa Brava area

High expectations met - highly recommended

We rented Villa Casamar through Charming Villas Catalonia for a week in June 2019. We had high expectations, given both the description of the house and the price level, and all expectations were met.

Making the reservation and deposit payment was easy and Charming Villas Catalonia personnel was friendly and responsive. Prior to arrival, we received useful messages and reminders.

At destination, we were greeted by the owner who lives nearby. There was no need to go a separate office to pick up the keys, bed linen, towels or alike - everything was in place when we arrived (and good quality linen and towels!). She has developed the housing area with her husband. She is very friendly, speaks at least English, Spanish, Dutch. We felt appreciated and welcome as customers and guests.

The house is very nice - it is obvious that it has been designed by a real architect with a vision. It is modern by style, yet loyal and consistent with its surroundings, including usage of stone, its colors, and is carefully designed for the lot. Inside it is spacious and has lots of character. Functionally the house worked very well for us - a couple with four kids joined by my parents, so 2+ 2 + 4. There are three bedrooms upstairs, and an extra one downstairs in conjunction with the laundry space. Two of the bedrooms upstairs are quite spacious and the third one quite normal size by Spanish standards (and certainly adequate). The extra bedroom downstairs is also spacious, a bit more modest though a nice detail is one wall being the original rock. As it is partly in conjunction with washing machine and dryer, it is perhaps ideal for kids who don't mind the traffic to laundry. Kitchen is very well equipped and close to main entrance, so one does not have to haul groceries through the house. The terrace is large, with a large dining table and separate sitting area. Swimming pool and terrace surrounding it is very nice and big enough for a few kids who can swim.

We got a bit unlucky with some construction at the next lot for a couple of days, raising some dust to the terrace and inside with the wind. Not much one can do about that. Note that there is a garage but it is not in use for guests so car has to be parked on the street next to the house. This did not matter to us. Due the location on a steep hill, there are some stairs outside and inside, which is important to know if you have any mobility issues.

The house is not cheap, but worth the price. In fact, the quality/price ratio is actually very good, with some 20 years experience of renting houses in Northern Costa Brava. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our stay at Villa Casamar. The house is beautiful and in good condition. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and appliances. Our family especially enjoyed the covered patio with a lovely view overlooking the town and cove. We also ended each afternoon at the large pool after hiking and swimming at the many beaches along the coast.
The town of Cadaques is a hidden gem. We walked into town everyday. Note that Villa Casamar sets on a hill overlooking Cadaques, so the walk home can be a cardio workout. We would stay here again.

MO - USA

Our group of 9 had a fantastic stay at the Villa. Most rooms had their own access to the outside which made it an ideal layout for a large group of (mostly) adults as it enabled them to use the pool or go out without disturbing the whole villa. The views were terrific, the pool was lovely and the location and ease of getting to and from the town on foot made the whole stay perfect.

We needed to use the sofa bed because of the size of our group. I had assumed it would be in the sitting room but is actually located in one of the bedrooms. It is only a small thing but it might be worth pointing that out perhaps on the Villa details as sharing a room might not work for everyone depending on the ages of the occupants.

We had a wonderful meal at La Talla which we would highly recommend but do book as it is quite small and very popular. The same is true of Dali's house which is just a short walk from the Villa.

We would definitely recommend this villa particularly if, like us, you have older children that like a bit of independence. The proximity to the town meant ours could come and go as they wished and the villa itself was stunning particularly the wonderful sliding patio door that disappeared into the wall creating a vast inside/ outside living space with an amazing vista.
