Can Pebre: Costa Brava area

Enjoying a privileged location within a small Catalan village, this Costa Brava farmhouse rental is a superb masia dating back to the 14^th Century that has been lovingly restored and furnished with great care maintaining many original features and details.

The house is within easy reach of the beaches of l’Escala, Sant Marti d’Empuries, and the cities of Figueres, Girona and the French border.

Although it is within a village it does really feel quiet and peaceful as it stands alone within its own walled grounds with great views of the countryside and the distant Pyrenees.

The property is accessed through a large front garden with olive trees and Mediterranean plants, and with plenty of parking space.

Inside, there are 1200m2 of living space, distributed on three floors. The main arched entrance brings you into a huge traditional vaulted hallway. Off to your left you will find a large living room which is split up into three separate seating areas, one with an impressive arched window looking onto the garden, and the other with a feature fireplace which is the focal point of this comfortable and cosy gathering place.

Leading off from the lounge is the ample country style kitchen which includes a breakfast area and all of the equipment and space you will need for preparing great family meals.

The kitchen connects to the dining room with two round tables and chairs for 12 people.

On this level, next to the hallway you will also find a guest bathroom.

Take the ancient stone staircase up to the first floor where you enter into a large second living room with wooden floorboards, coffee table and sofas for 10-12. This sitting room has another fireplace that provides a warm and dramatic focal point. From here there is access to a lovely terrace with views.

Around the sitting room there are the 6 bedrooms, 3 of which are duplex and have a main double bed on the upper level, and a sofa bed on the lower level, so they can sleep two or three people each.  The other 3 bedrooms are two doubles and a twin.

Can Pebre also has an attic, which is accessed through a secondary stair case leading from the kitchen. This attic has sofas and a small TV, and can also be accessed from two of the duplex bedrooms.

Outside you will find a covered porch chill out area with table and seating for 12 people. There are also sofas on which to relax and curtains which can be lowered if shade is required. There is a large well maintained swimming pool of 15 x 8 meters.

There are a total of 6 bedrooms, all of them with en-suite bathrooms. There is also a guest bathroom on the ground floor.

Bedroom 1:  Double with en-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet, shower).

Bedroom 2:  Double with en-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet, shower).

Bedroom 3:  Twin with en-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet, shower).

Bedroom 4: Duplex. It has a double mattress on the upper level and a sofa bed on the lower level. En-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet, shower).

Bedroom 5: Duplex. It has a double mattress on the upper level and a sofa bed on the lower level. En-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet and bath with handheld shower).

Bedroom 6: Duplex. It has a double mattress on the upper level and a sofa bed on the lower level.  En-suite bathroom (WC, sink, bidet and bath with handheld shower).

There is one portable fan in every bedroom.

Living areas

Two sitting rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Both with comfortable sofas and fireplace. The different living areas provide large groups space for everyone to find peace and quiet tucked away in a corner to read or have a siesta.

Locally based we offer a free concierge service to all of our clients. We can help arrange a whole range of extra services including securing tables at top restaurants and private chefs to cook for you at the villa. We can help plan itineraries, suggest excursions such as a day trip to Cadaques and help with car hire/airport transfers if needed.

Please note that cards issued outside the EU or business cards incur a  1% processing fee. To save this charge you can pay by transfer.

Refundable security deposit: 1000 Euros

Arrival day: generally from Friday to Friday during the high season, but flexible whenever possible. 

Minimum stay: 1 week in high season.

Price includes: Bed linen, Bathroom towels and Pool Towels.  Tourist tax included in the price.

The accommodation was exactly as described and comfortable. The owner was exceptionally welcoming and went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and allowed us to arrive early as my 8 month old was with us. There's not much in the village but we were looking for that so we were quite happy. Beaches only a 25 minute drive away and were all very nice but with the large pool it was hard to drag ourselves out! I would highly recommend Charming Villas. The houses and the service they provide is quite excellent.

Can pebre was lovely - very pretty, comfortable and well equipped. The owner was extremely helpful and charming. We were glad to be slightly away from the coast and to have a large garden. At the weekend we went to explore inland and saw almost no traffic on the side roads. The swimming pool was much used. Shopping in camallera was fine and there was a carrefore in L'escala which we also used. There was good quality fish there and a good choice. We did not eat out much but on the last night, when we were fewer, we ate in the Argentinian restaurant in camallera and we all enjoyed it. It was full of families but was not noisy. We would certainly recommend charming villas Catalonia and, in fact, I have already recommended it to a travel agent here. Richard was extremely helpful. We enjoyed a paella for 20 on the night of a big birthday and this was arranged by Richard. We all had a very good time and can pebre lived up to our hopes. Everyone thought it was beautiful.

The house and grounds are lovely. Clearly the family treasures their history here and there is evidence of that everywhere!
It is important to point out that in Can Pebre, three of the bedrooms have an upper and lower level, which is accessed by a wooden staircase. This may not be appropriate for people of a certain age.
We spent a lovely week exploring the area which has many interesting things to see and do: the Dali museum in Figueres, the ruins of Empuries, Girona, Besalu. The beaches nearby were all great.
