The property consists of two linked buildings, one of which was built on the remains of a medieval house in the seventeenth century, and the other dating from the nineteenth century.

Its 12 bedrooms, bathrooms and lovely interiors offer luxury hotel standards whilst giving its guests the comfort, facilities and intimacy of a private home.

The owners have spared no expense and have cut no corners restoring and furnishing this magnificent house and have cleverly fused modern design with distinctive sophistication and the latest technology.

The main building includes on the ground floor a reception area, a large dining room adjacent to a spacious fully equipped kitchen. On this floor there is also a convenient laundry area and a cloakroom.

On the first floor there are 4 en-suite bedrooms, a library area and a comfortable sitting room with sofas, television and huge glass partition walls with direct access and views over the lovely private gardens. There is also a practical kitchenette where you can prepare your drinks and snacks whist socializing.

On the first floor there are a further 4 bedrooms, also en-suite.

The annex building can be accessed directly from the street or from the main sitting room. It includes a further 4 bedrooms, all with their private bathrooms

The property has a lift, which is ideal for people with reduced mobility. There is also air conditioning and television in all the bedrooms.

The garden, with an area of 1200m2, includes a picturesque 10th century wall and the back of the 12th century Romanesque Santa Maria church. It also has a refreshing pool that has been designed to integrate into the historic surroundings and is fenced for children’s safety.

The village where it is located is renowned for its Jewish heritage and its many interesting ancient buildings, especially the 11^th century fortified bridge and the mikvah –the only medieval Jewish baths in Spain and Portugal. It has a great weekly market, beautiful shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.

All in all this house is ideal for those who want to sink into the slow paced Catalan way of life, escape the rush of modern day living and admire the great historical heritage of a traditional village without the need of  a car! Still be within one hour’s drive all most main attractions: Barcelona, the Costa Brava, Girona, Figueres and the south of France, making it a perfect base to explore the surrounding area.

The property has a total of 12 light and airy bedrooms and 12 bathrooms.

The main house has 8 bedrooms; 6 twins and 2 doubles all with views and some with balconies.

Secondary house has 4 double bedrooms. All rooms have views to either the garden or the village.

Three of the bedrooms have an extra single bed.

Living areas
Large sitting room (75 m2), with sofas, flat screen TV, additional tables and chairs. This is an ideal space for social gatherings. It has an adjacent kitchenette for preparing snacks and drinks.

Library-office, an area with a table for 10 people, great to catch up on work/emails.

Ground floor dining room with a capacity for up to 35 people beautifully decorated with reclaimed teak furniture.

TOURIST TAX 2013 - the Government of Catalunya has introduced a new Tourist Tax for the 2013 season for all villa rentals. The tax is payable by all persons staying in this property over the age of 16. The tax is paid at the rate of €0.50 per person per night for up to a maximum of 7 nights and must be paid locally in cash to the owner or its representative at the time of check in at the property.

We visited Besalu July 14-21 2012 for a special birthday celebration. Our party was 31 in total, 24 stayed at Mas Tallaferro with the extra guests staying at an excellent nearby apartment. The accomodations were perfect, each guest had their own modern suite with ensuite bath. There was plenty of room inside and out for dinner parties for the whole group. We had great weather and primarily dined on the large outside deck at one long table, with excellent catering by Lee Pennington, a great recommendation from Richard & Sara. The Villa location right in the lovely village of Besalu was perfect as it gave guests the opportunity to slip away to grab coffee or a drink at one of the many nearby quaint cafes. The large yard & pool gave the kids plenty of space to run around and also quiet spots for guests to relax in the sun. Richard and Sara did a fantastic job of arranging a week of spectacular activities and meals for our group. Several of the meals were in restaurants well off the beaten path that we would never have found ourselves and were truly special and incredibly good value. We visited great beaches, had a fun day on a boat, did tours of Girona & the Dali museum, did a fantastic wine tasting, played a couple of great rounds of golf, had a dad v kids paintball challenge. All of these were special but the highlight might possibly be the balloon trip that ended by landing practically in the Villa back yard. Richard & Sara were incredibly generous with their time in arranging all of these activities and were available and responsive in coordinating transportation changes when the inevitable schedule changes arose. We are forever in their debt for putting together a special week that none of us will ever forget.

Now that we are back from our honeymoon and had some time to rethink everything that came on our path the last month, we wanted to let you know that we had a very special and enjoyable time in the villa in Besalu. Not only us, but just as important, all our guests were very pleased with everything and they have let us know that this was something they will never forget. It was perfect.
