Ca l'Arnau

Believed to have been built on the foundations of a Roman villa, this huge country house was purchased by the current owners in 2002, who spent five years restoring it taking great care to maintain traditional features of the old “masia” whilst incorporating modern comfort facilities.

The property is conveniently situated on the outskirts of Girona, a mere 5 minutes drive to the centre of the city, with its numerous shops and restaurants as well as its fabled old town and impressive cathedral.

Even though it is quite close to main means of communication that can be seen from the grounds and even heard in the distance (roads and railway), Ca l’Arnau feels private and secluded, and the nearest neighbours are some minutes away.

There are great walks around the property grounds that total around 6 hectares, and there is even a river that runs through the estate, with 150 yards of exclusive fishing frontage.

Inside, the most striking features are the very generous proportions of all the living space. The whole house feels light, airy and very spacious.

Sleeps 18+ guests in 9 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

Ground floor

Bedroom 2 and 3 share one bathroom with bath and shower.

There is also another bathroom/utility room on the ground floor.

First floor

Bedroom 4 (double) Bedroom 5 (double ) and Bedroom 6 (double) share one bathroom with bath and shower.

Bedroom 7: Very large double with en-suite bathroom (bath)

Bedroom 8 (double) and Bedroom 9 (4 single beds, ideal as a children's dormitory). Bedroom 8 is accessed through Bedroom 9. They both share a bathroom with two showers.

Outside

Large enclosed patio (35m x 25m) suitable for entertaining anything up to 100 people. Under the barn there is a table that seats in excess of 20 people. Ideal space for dining al freco and great area for kids to play and run around-there are 2 gates which can be locked for child security.
Fenced swimming pool (8 x 6 meters)
Outside the lockable patio care must be taken, especially with young children, as the masis borders a river but fishing is possible and there are great walks around the house.

5 minutes drive to Girona city centre

20 minutes to Besalú, Figueres.

35 minutes to the Costa Brava beaches

1h to Barcelona.

Thank you for everything this week. We Canadians had a fabulous time. Weather was great. We found some wonderful cycling roads. Our guide Jordi was unbeliebably good. Rosa (the cleaner) and Jordi (the chef) were also terrific and delightful. Ca l'Arnau was perfect for us - lots of space and character. I suspect we'll be back to Catalonia again.
