Castell de Rocaberti

Castell de Rocaberti is an imposing medieval castle located midway between the historic cities of Girona and Figueres and the seaside beaches of the Costa Brava.

The impressive building is the focal point at the heart of a quiet little Catalan village.

It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers views to the mountains and beyond.

As you enter through the magnificent portals, you will be struck immediately by a sense of peace and tranquility.

The castle dates back to the 11thC and it has welcomed kings, queens and other aristocracy over the centuries. Today its 15 bedrooms, some suites, and 13 bathrooms, distributed in its four storeys, offer every convenience of modern life and make for a most inviting and comfortable base to explore the nearby region.

The first floor is where the aristocrats would have lived, and is the one with the most sophisticated feel. It includes a large salon, dominated by a great fireplace, and two dining rooms - one with a round table seating twelve, and one in a less formal setting, with a rectangular table seating eight, all filled with comfortable furniture and stunning antiques.

The main kitchen is also on this floor; it is fully equipped and features many modern conveniences. A second kitchen downstairs has direct access to the terrace and offers all the amenities to prepare simple meals, and a large hall is ready to be set up for large celebrations.

Given its village setting, the castle has an “urban” garden: a broad elevated terrace, one section shaded by a large pergola that creates a cool outdoor living room, it includes a “plunge” swimming pool for quick refreshment, otherwise the Costa Brava beaches are only 20 minutes away.

What a magnificent place, so elegant and beautifully furnished. It exceded our expectations in every way. It was large enough to congregate our large group, still there was plenty of privacy for us all. The castle was a convenient base to explore all the highlights of the region.
